topimage-top10freestockStock photos [or images] are an absolutely great option and an asset to those who need a certain type of photograph for use in their work.

Why is stock photography so beneficial? Well, simply put, publishers, advertising agencies, graphic artists, and others use stock photography to fulfill the needs of their creative assignments.

Stock photography consists of existing photographs that can be licensed for specific uses.

A customer who uses stock photography instead of hiring a photographer can save time and money, but can also sacrifice creative control.

6-Stockvault

Stockvault.net is a stock photo sharing website where photographers, designers and students can share their photographs and images with each other. Stockvault’s sole purpose is to collect and archive medium and high resolution photographs that designers and students can share and use for personal and non-commercial designs.

For years Stockvault.net has catered it’s visitors with free imagery, “ready to use” web layouts and logos and helped those who don’t have the means to turn to the royalty free agencies. We are in no way trying to compete with royalty free stock, but rather to fulfill the need for “somewhat” free stock imagery.

7-Woophy

Woophy stands for WOrld Of PHotographY, a website founded by a Dutch collective of photo aficionados and internet designers who believe navigation on internet can be more visual, logical and associative.

The goal of Woophy’s founders is to create an accessible, visual, current, democratic and collective work of art comprised of a database picturing our remarkable world.

8-cepolina

Over 8000 free photos are available for download.
Each photo can be saved in five formats (up to 1024X768 pixels).
You can download any photo for private or commercial use.

9-Unprofound

Our photos for your ideas. Simple concept, huh? There’s no catch. There’s no art. It’s all subjective anyway, isn’t it? We feel your pain, and hopefully you’ll see ours. Use it, abuse it, just let us know where we can see it. That’s half the fun of it. Well, actually all the fun… but we don’t want to empower you too much.

This collection of photos is for anyone to use in just about any way they’d like. You may NOT, however, redistribute these photos individually or en masse, as photos, to any other websites or offline buyers. The photos themselves are still the intellectual property of their respective owners and you are merely receiving permission to use them in your designs, your art, your personal and professional projects, as your desktop backgrounds.. if you are unclear as to whether or not your plans for a photo fall under our requirements, frequently asked questions. If you don’t find an answer there, ask me.

We’ve sorted the photos by the basic colors. The white isn’t really white though.. it’s more of an “everything else” category. There’s also a half-assed search engine, but it’s not very complex. So keep it simple there. Good searches would be words like abstract, macro, architecture, trees, woman, etc. Less is more here. Cheers.

10-openphoto

openphoto.net – an archive of stock photography for use in personal or commercial projects.

Did we overlook a great resource? If so, let us know.

These are some great sites.

Although some stock photography site offer a lot of pictures that are simply “stock”

There seems to be a lack of creativity and uniqueness about the quality of the images offered at stock photography sites.

When you can find unique photography that is offered free then that is really a niche and something of true value and passion.

Typically unique artistic photography work is high priced especially if it is in large format.

I would like to suggest a website called ForestWander Free Stock Nature Photography

This site has a lot of great work that others would charge a lot of money. But all that this site asks is that you give them credit for their work.

You do not see this very often. :) Maybe this is something that will catch on.
